LOVE
“Lots of ways to reach God.
I choose Love” ~Rumi
When I first saw this picture I immediately thought about the love we display outside of ourselves, but this afternoon another perspective opened up…..an inward perspective.
How easy do we find it to love the darkness inside ourselves?
Do we even know how to love ourselves? And if not how can we truly unconditionally love another?
And how much of our absence of love for another comes from not seeing what is happening inside of us?
Why does this happen- why do we not see ourselves clearly?
How much do we “pretend” that there is only light inside- and thus suppress the darkness?
Take for example: when we might yell at a child or a loved one, immediately afterwards we feel “bad” at what has just happened. This is our darkness that surfaced first, and the voice inside our head from within came into judge it……..reprimanding what has just arisen.
There is an absence of self love in this normal state of affairs and thus an internal conflict arises. The light has not yet arisen, only the judge has surfaced to accuse the person of wrong doing!
If however, when the rage surfaced (the dark), we instead looked to explore what it is teaching us about ourself, and became “aware” of a hidden lesson, this new awareness becomes the “light”. In this scenario, the light then automatically shows compassion for the darkness – because the darkness helped for the light to emerge!
Without the dark, there would have been no light. Compassion is inevitable and all judgement falls away.
Thus the light and dark inside complement each other to help a person to grow into a beautiful integrated whole. With this process, step by step, self love emerges.
With self love, true unconditional love for those around us, also flows……judgment and separation evaporates, instead compassion and unity arises.
Lets use this picture to help us to take a leap towards embracing all facets of ourselves and accept every element that makes us a human being. Only then can there be peace inside and outside of ourselves. Its time to ask our internal darkness, what light it is trying to bring to the surface, so that we might expand into greater light and new awareness!
